Future Students COVID-19 FAQ

Important Update for Fall 2020

As we continue planning for the fall semester at UNT, our primary focus is offering in-person class experiences as much as possible while still providing a safe environment during COVID-19. Fall classes will commence Aug. 24, so please register for virtual freshman orientation or transfer orientation if you haven’t already. At your virtual orientation session, an academic advisor will assist you with registering for your fall classes. A few things for you to note:

  • Once you’re registered, you can review class information using MyUNT. Details for each course section can be found in Search of Classes through MyUNT by simply clicking on that section. There you will find tabs for details, meeting information and section notes. This is where you will see specific information on how a course will be taught. If you need assistance building a Fall 2020 schedule that works best for you, please reach out to your undergraduate academic advisor or graduate departmental advisor.
  • We have added new modes of delivery, including courses that include a portion of the class meeting in-person, labeled as partial remote and partially online. Please see the Registrar’s site for more information about course mode of delivery definitions.
  • We have identified additional classroom space for courses so we may teach more students face-to-face. To safely accommodate classes, we will be engaging in social distancing, which will limit the number of students in each classroom space. These steps, among many others, will help support the health of our Mean Green Family.
  • Students will not be required to return to campus for face-to-face classes after the Thanksgiving holiday. The end of the semester and final exams will be conducted remotely as originally scheduled.

We anticipate the fall will pose a number of challenges as conditions evolve across our state and nation, and we will continue working to mitigate those challenges as best we can to help our students encounter a rich UNT experience. We also anticipate that the spring semester will proceed normally, and we will communicate any course delivery updates related to Spring 2021 as we know more.

Campus Life

  • What campus activities will be available in light of social distancing practices on campus? What will my campus experience be like?

We know that students who have an on-campus experience as freshmen adjust better to college life and go on to have a successful academic career. While we know that some events and activities may look a little different, we are going to give our students the experiences they are craving. All of our residents will have a robust, meaningful experience this year that will set them up for future success. We have missed our students and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to campus!

All of our programs and services will be available in a hybrid model this fall – both face-to-face and virtually. We are actively seeking approval and guidance to offer many of our transitional first-year programs, like First Flight and Welcome Week programming, among others, in person, while following CDC and campus guidelines to ensure the safety of our community. All services will remain in place through finals for the fall semester. This is an ever-evolving process, and as new developments emerge, we will make necessary adjustments.
